Nottingham Forest Reject Wigan's Approach For Tendayi Darikwa

Nottingham Forest has rejected fellow Championship side, Wigan Athletic’s approach for Warriors defender Tendayi Darikwa.

Reports claim that Wigan submitted a ‘low’ offer for the Zimbabwe international and the club could come with an improved bid though it is understood that Forest does not have plans to sell.

Darikwa has only joined up with the rest of the Reds squad over the past week or so, after being on international duty at the Africa Cup of Nations last month.

Forest are in Greece for pre-season and Darikwa will face stiff competition at right-back from Matty Cash and highly-rated youngster Jayden Richardson.

Reports say that the 27-year-old Warriors defender, who grew up in West Bridgford, produced a lively performance in the 3-0 win over Greek side, Atromitos on Saturday.

Darikwa is expected to play against Olympiacos on Tuesday night.

After the game against Atromitos, Darikwa said:

Nottingham Forest is a massive club. We know that. As a club we have been underachieving for too long,” he said.

The owners took it upon themselves to change the manager and that will hopefully work. But as players, we have to do our best. It is down to us to make sure that we do enough ourselves this season.

Darikwa has made 63 appearances for the Reds, 59 as a starter and 4 as a sub since joining from Burnley almost two years ago.

He has scored one goal, in a 5-1 defeat at Chelsea, in the EFL Cup in 2017.
