Bulawayo Councillors Appear In Court For Assaulting Town Clerk

Bulawayo Councillors, Deputy Mayor, Tinashe Kambarami and Silas Chigora on Saturday appeared in facing assault charges. This comes after they tried to physically evict Bulawayo Town Clerk, Christopher Dube who was refusing to recognise a suspension by Kambarami.

On Thursday, then acting Mayor Kambarami, suspended Dube over several allegations ranging from abuse of office, incompetence and theft.

The suspension has since been reversed by Mayor Solomon Mguni who returned to the office 24 hours later. Mguni said that the suspension would “destabilise council operations.”

Kambarami and Chigora appeared before magistrate Franklin Mkwananzi and were remanded out of custody on a $50 bail each to 22 July 2019.
