Independent legislator, Temba Mliswa has asked why cabinet minister keep huge amounts of foreign currency in their houses.
Mliswa suggested that the money could be used for illegal foreign currency dealing on the black market. He said:
So how much forex hard cash do these Ministers keep in their homes and for what? What’s the law regarding money hoarding?
Isn’t this forex for money changing or maybe for working so hard for the Chinese? So ZANU PF Youth League were correct.
So the Ministers don’t bank but the ordinary citizen must bank? This certainly will open a can of worms…
Mliswa’s remarks follow revelations that US$25 000 was stolen from the Information Minister Monica Mutsvangwa’s house by her housemaid.
The maid, Tracy Manase, has since pleaded guilty to stealing the money and was sentenced to three years in jail by a Mutare magistrate.
Recently, the Mutsvangwas’ son, Neville, was alleged to be part of an illegal foreign currency syndicate operating in the Avenues area.
