AFCON: "Sad, I Wasn't In Egypt When They Allegedly Saw Me" - Katumbi Denies Bribing Warriors

DRC business tycoon, Moise Katumbi, has dismissed as sad the allegations that he bribed the Zimbabwean goalkeeper Elvis Chipezeze to influence a match between Zimbabwe and DRC. Zimbabwe lost that match with four goals to nil.

The allegations were started by a Madagascar paper, La Gazette de la Grand. Katumbi has since pledged to take legal action against the publication. He said:

Journalists who invent grotesque #CAN2019 match corruption cases discredit their profession.

Sad, I was not in Egypt when they ‘saw me the day before the match.’ I am a sports lover who always defends merit & fairness!’

Writing to CAF secretary general, Katumbi’s Lawyers said:

Mr. Katumbi formally denounces these false accusations, Mr. Katumbi would also like to point out that at the time of the alleged facts, he had already left Egypt and was, therefore, physically unable to approach any player. His passport confirms it, a copy of it is attached.

Meanwhile, Warriors players and management have thrown full support behind Chipezeze daring accusers to bring evidence of the bribe. They said that the CCTV in the hotel they were using can be used to solve the issue.

They also argued that the tournament meant a lot to their careers and none of them would risk his career for bribes.
