ZETDC Announces Increased Load Shedding Due To Spike In Demand

The Zimbabwe Electricity Transmission and Distribution Company (ZETDC) said that load shedding has increased outside schedule due to a spike in demand for electricity.

In a statement issued on Tuesday evening, ZETDC said:

Load shedding has increased outside the published schedule due to a huge rise in demand in excess of 1800MW against low generation.

A bigger unit is expected into service during the peak period and this will provide some relief.

Zimbabwe’s electricity consumption usually peaks during the winter season and load shedding has been worsened by low power generation at the Kariba HEP (due to low water levels at Lake Kariba) while Hwange Thermal Power Plant experiences a frequent breakdown of ageing equipment.
