AFCON: Zimbabweans React To Warriors 0-4 Defeat By DRC

Zimbabweans have responded angrily to the Warriors defeat at the hands of DRC in a 2019 Tota AFCON Group A match that was played in Egypt last night. Some blamed the players whilst some blamed the Zimbabwe Football Association for having a poor preparation to the tournament.

Even politicians who were watching the match expressed their disappointment. Linda Masarira, leader of the LEAD party blamed the ministry of sports for not putting enough effort to support the sport. She said:

The warriors disappointed. Zimbabweans had a lot of hope and if they played protesting it might be detrimental to their individual careers. The ministry of sports is not putting 100% effort to promote sport in Zimbabwe. I smell #afcongate… Rina manyanga hariputirwe. #ZIMDRC

Exiled for Higher and Tertiary Education minister, Professor Jonathan Moyo criticised both the players and the team management for lack of professionalism. Moyo tweeted:

So @lashiasn & @Mavhure it looks like the #Warriors, players & coaches, decided to make good their boycott threat on the field of play. In the process they proved that, just like they are capable of amazing performance, they are also capable of breathtaking unprofessionalism!

Advocate Alex T. Magaisa observed that the Warriors performance was below their expected levels. Posting before the match was over, Magaisa said:

The boys didn’t turn up tonight. 4 nil & it could get worse #ZIMDRC 😫

Another Soccer fan, Advent Shoko observed that the tournament might be a disservice to some players who will likely not move to bigger clubs as they lost value at the tournament due to poor performance. He said:

There’s more to this tournament than salaries. Some lost value on the market coz of this. If it’s sabotage, the impact affects them too.

Norton legislator, Temba Mliswa also criticised ZIFA for not adequately preparing for the tournament. Mliswa said:

Warriors downfall is the result of a poor and corrupt administration who should now do the right thing and just resign. The team lacked preparedness, was distracted negotiating for their salaries at tournament. What more could we expect them to do #AFCON2019

Others recalled what Buhera legislator Joseph Chinotimba said when Zimbabwe crushed out of the AFCON tournament under the leadership of Callisto Pasuwa. He said the Warriors had to return the money. Watch the Video below to hear what Chinotimba said in Parliament.
