ZIFA Says Warriors Will Not Pull Out Of AFCON

The Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) has dismissed reports that the Warriors could withdraw their participation from the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations tournament in Egypt.

Reports suggest that ZIFA officials and players spent the greater part of Thursday night in marathon talks with no breakthrough.

ZIFA has since stated that Zimbabwe will not withdraw from AFCON. The statement reads:

ZIFA would like to inform members of the football fraternity that Zimbabwe is not withdrawing from the 2019 Egypt Total Africa Cup of Nations.

Zimbabwe faces DRC on June 30 in a must-win encounter. A win may not be enough to guarantee a place in the last 16 while a draw or loss will confirm the Warriors’ elimination.
