Kariba Town Introduces Water Rationing

Kariba town council has advised residents that it will be rationing water as the supply of the precious liquid has fallen by a third owing to various factors.

Kariba town clerk Richard Kamhoti revealed that a burnt pump and siltation in the pump have contributed to the reduced water supply. He said:

Over the past few weeks, our water production at Breeze’s waterworks has been depressed averaging six megalitres (Ml) against a normal daily average of nine Ml, the shortages are as a result of several factors among them one of the twin in-lake tower motor pumps were burnt.

The water shortages have affected Baobab, Batonga and Nyamhunga but areas like Baobab extension, Tanamata, Destiny, Nyamhunga Shopping Centre and Nyanhewe are worst affected.

… We are also mulling decommissioning the temporary submersible pump to enable de-siltation of the tower to remove the silted pump, excavation of the area surrounding the tower and re-installing two submersible pumps.
