"You Know VP Chiwenga Is Indisposed & Unable To Report For Work"

Defence Minister Oppah Muchinguri-Kashiri is reportedly the defacto acting president as vice president Constantino Chiwenga is said to be indisposed and unable to report for work.

This comes after president Emmerson Mnangagwa left the country late Tuesday for the US – Africa Summit to be held in Mozambique.

Mew Zimbabwe was told by highly placed sources that although Vice President Constantino Chiwenga was supposed to be Acting President, Muchinguri-Kashiri is basically in charge. The sources said:

She (Muchinguri-Kashiri) has been left in charge. You know VP Chiwenga is indisposed and unable to report for work. That is why for the first time you saw only the Defence Minister seeing off the President.

In theory VP Chiwenga is Acting President but in reality it’s the Defence Minister who has the reins.

For the past six months, Chiwenga has been in and out of the hospital at home and abroad. Presidential spokesperson George Charamba said the VP needed rest and will only be allowed to return for duty once he is fit.

Co-Vice, President Kembo Mohadi is also reportedly out of the country for “treatment”.

Foreign Affairs Minister Sibusiso Moyo said that the summit which president Mnangagwa is attending presents opportunities for Africa which is scrambled for by world giants. The USA and other superpowers, particularly China, have of late been competing to influence Africa which boasts of vast-untapped human, mineral and natural resources.
