Mthuli Ncube Possible ZANU PF Candidate In Lupane East By-election
A report claims that Finance and Economic Development Minister Mthuli Ncube could be fielded as the ZANU PF candidate for the Lupane East by-election.
The by-election will be held on August 3 this year following the death of Zanu PF’s Sithembile Gumbo on April 15.
According to ZimLive.com, Zanu PF’s provincial party in Matabeleland North meets this weekend to decide on the candidate to field in the election.
Minister Ncube is considered a possible candidate as he does not have a constituency of his own. He was appointed a cabinet minister by President Emmerson Mnangagwa as one of the technocrats.
In the 2018 general election, Gumbo polled 7,875 votes, beating closest challenger Dalumuzi Khumalo of the MDC Alliance who polled 5,791 votes.
