The US ambassador to Zimbabwe, Brian Nichols has said that the issues which bedevil Zimbabwe are deep-rooted and cannot be solved overnight. Speaking on Diamond radio recently, the ambassador said that he believes that the government led by president Mnangagwa had a solid plan to address the challenges from now going forward. He said that there is nothing he could say to make 2019 look or sound better as the citizenry has had a rough time. He also called upon the “people” to remember that Mnangagwa’s government is dealing with 2 decades of failed policies which therefore cannot be fixed within a very short space of time. His remarks also echo sentiments by the newly elected MDC Treasurer General, David Coltart who recently said that Zimbabweans needed to lower their expectations both within the MDC and nation at large. He further said that even if Nelson Chamisa was to take over power soon, he would not be able to turn Zimbabwe’s fortunes around within a very limited space of time since problems are deep-rooted.
Others commenting on the ambassador’s remarks have however said that the same ZANU PF party is responsible for those policies which pulled down the economy.
