Commuter Omnibus Operators Respond To Fuel Price Increase Reports, Hike Fares

Reports that fuel prices have gone up have prompted commuter omnibus operators to hike fares. Trips which were charged RTGS$1.5 to RTGS$2.0 in the morning are now being charged RTGS$2.5 in Harare. Reports suggest that for the same distances, commuter omnibus operators are already charging RTGS$4.0.

The Zimbabwe Energy Regulatory Authority has however refuted the reports saying that prices have not been reviewed. This was also reverberated by the secretary in the Finance Ministry, George Guvamatanga who further said current prices must be maintained.

Meanwhile, Energy minister has promised remedial action against fuel operators who are hiking fuel prices.
