Chamisa Twists The Knife In Mwonzora's Wound

MDC president Nelson Chamisa on Monday had a dig on his fallen rival Douglas Mwonzora for “running away” from the Congress venue when he learnt that he had been defeated from the post of secretary general by Chalton Hwende.

Mwonzora lost to Hwende by more than 1 000 votes and left Ascot in a huff, even before the results had been officially announced.

Addressing the delegates after the results had been announced, Chamisa thanked the losers Morgen Komichi and Happymore Chidziva who lost in the race for the vice presidency and deputy national chairman respectively but chose to congratulate the winners. Said Chamisa:

I remember the feeling I got in 2014 when I lost to Dougie (Douglas Mwonzora). We got to Congress and everyone was chanting my name and monikers but when the votes were tallied he was way ahead of me. I was shocked, hurt and walked away.

I, however, did not leave the party because I am a loyal cadre.

After losing an election you can go and take a nap which is what Mwonzora did today (Monday). He lost against Hwende (Charlton). He lost the same way, I lost to him in 2014.

Mwonzora beat Chamisa to the post of secretary general in 2014 in a surprise turn of events after the later had been nominated by all provinces for the post save one.

Before the just-ended Congress, Mwonzora was eyeing the presidency according to reports but failed to get a single nomination during provincial congresses.
