MDC Congress Plunged Into Pitch Darkness During Voting

MDC’s elective Congress was plunged into darkness on Sunday, the final day of the Indaba.

There was a power cut at Gweru’s Ascot Stadium where the Congress was being held, and the most critical process, that is, the voting for the party’s Standing Committee was ongoing.

The party had to resort to the use of vehicle headlights during voting, with fears by some party members that ballot stuffing and rigging of the electoral process would happen under the cover of darkness.

Reports indicate that when electricity was cut off, just one province had voted while about four were still in winding queues.

However, the voting process continued under vehicle headlights, with party supporters singing songs denigrating President Emmerson Mnangagwa whom they blamed for the outage.
