Iran President Hassan Rouhani has said that no amount of threat from the USA will ever coerce the nation into giving up its goals, independence, and pride.
His sentiments follow America’s deployment of more military hardware to the Middle East in a show of force. Rouhan said:
More than one year after the imposition of these severe sanctions, our people have not bowed to pressures despite facing difficulties in their lives.
We need resistance so our enemies know that if they bomb our land, and if our children are martyred, wounded or taken as prisoners, we will not give up on our goals for the independence of our country and our pride.
Iran’s armed forces chief of staff, Major-General Mohammad Baqeri, recalled their victory over Iraq and said that it has to be a reminder to any of their enemies. He said Iran shall respond to any threats accordingly.
Meanwhile, Trump has been promising an end to Iran if they engage in a fight. Posting on Twitter on Sunday, Trump said:
If Iran wants to fight, that will be the official end of Iran. Never threaten the United States again!
The growing tensions between the two nations come after the USA pulled out of a 2015 nuclear deal with Iran, China, and Russia. The deal would see America would lift sanctions from Iran whilst Iran shun its nuclear programme. The USA has restored and enhanced sanctions on Iran who is now threatening to continue with the nuclear programme.
