Full Text: Message From COSAFA President Phillip Chiyangwa

We extend a welcome to this 2019 edition to Uganda as a guest nation, with The Cranes one of four teams in the field that will be heading to Egypt shortly after the tournament to take part in the Africa Cup of Nations.

South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia are the others and this year’s COSAFA Cup will provide them with some vital fine-tuning as they prepare for the continent’s biggest stage.

Durban is one of the premier sporting and tourist destinations in South Africa and will provide the perfect backdrop to what we believe could be the best COSAFA Cup competition yet.

I must give thanks to our gracious hosts the eThekwini Municipality and the South African Football Association, for the enthusiasm and support they have shown in staging this wonderful event, which brings teams and fans together from all over our region.

The facilities on show at the Moses Mabhida Stadium and the other venues for the COSAFA Cup are world-class and I am sure that will make for entertaining football, and give our stars of the region the opportunity to shine.

We extend a welcome to this 2019 edition to Uganda as a guest nation, with The Cranes one of five teams in the field that will be heading to Egypt shortly after the tournament to take part in the Africa Cup of Nations.

South Africa, Zimbabwe, Angola and Namibia are the others and this year’s COSAFA Cup will provide them with some vital fine-tuning as they prepare for the continent’s biggest stage.

And for other teams, it will also serve as a warm-up to the African Nations Championship qualifiers later in the year and give them much needed competitive action.

The aim, as ever, of the 2019 COSAFA Cup is to help develop football in our region. Not just the players on the pitch, but coaches, match officials and administrators.

It is by hosting and organising tournaments such as this that we see skills improved in all areas as there is nothing better than hands-on experience to gain knowledge.

I wish all of the 13 teams competing at the 2019 COSAFA Cup the very best of luck and look forward to two weeks of exciting football that not only provides much entertainment for fans but also showcases the rich talent in our Southern African region.
