Planned Demo Fails
The Chronicle reports that a demonstration that was being planned by the MDC led by advocate Nelson Chamisa has failed to materialise. The publisher further notes that the Zimbabwe Republic Police was very prepared to manage the protests.
Reports indicate that there have been some messages circulating on social media which were mobilising citizens to participate in the demonstration and in civil disobedience.
National police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi spoke to the Chronicle and said that the situation was normal countrywide. He also said that the police shall remain mobilised in case something happens.
In the past few weeks, civil society organisations and the opposition MDC threated to protest against the economic and political crises. The government, on the other hand, warned against engaging in protests saying that security personnel were ready to make counter moves.
