Picture: Crowds Throng Bus Termini For 'Free' ZUPCO Buses

The provision of ZUPCO buses for “free”, actually the bus fare is $0.50 for most of the routes in and around Harare, has resulted in chaos as crowds throng the various termini to get cheap rides. Award-winning journalist Hopewell Chin’ono writes:

This picture has been taken just now. This is the other side of subsidies, there will be chaos as all these people are looking for cheaper transport. A taxicab to Budiriro now costs RTGS55. A whole ZUPCO 75 seater bus to Budiriro will only get RTGS37.5 charging 50c per passenger.
