Biti Vows To Stand 'Irrevocably & Unbreakably' With Chamisa

MDC vice chairperson and Harare East MP, Tendai Biti, has declared his unwavering support for party president Nelson Chamisa.

Biti revealed that he, alongside party co-vice president Welshman Ncube, was advised by the late MDC founding president Morgan Tsvangirai to return the party.

Biti and Ncube fell out with Tsvangirai while they were holding the post of secretary general at different times. Ncube was the first to go, and his successor, Biti also left with a handful of legislators.

Addressing thousands of party supporters who had gathered at a “Thank You Rally” in Chiredzi on Sunday, Biti said:

The late Tsvangirai called me and Professor Welshman Ncube at his Highlands home and he said ‘please come back and we rebuild our party to what it was in 1999′.

Walk together and work together. If I come back, I will join you; if I don’t come back, that’s it’.

We asked him why he was saying that and he said ‘I am an old man and I understand my health situation’.

… So the commitment that I and Welshman Ncube gave to Baba Tsvangirai, we will stand irrevocably, unbreakably with Advocate Nelson Chamisa.

Biti was nominated to the post of vice president and is set to fight it out with Ncube, Morgen Komichi, and Elias Mudzuri.

However, a splinter group calling itself in Defence of Morgan Tsvangirai Legacy (DMTL) has urged the party to block Biti and Ncube from contesting, calling them “traitiors”.
