Mwonzora Takes A Dig At Hwende An "Absentee Leader"

MDC secretary-general, Douglas Mwonzora has said that his major contender for the secretary-general post, Chalton Hwende was not the man for the post indicating that he was an “absentee leader” domiciled in Namibia.

Speaking at the MDC Mashonaland West provincial caucus meeting on Tuesday, Mwonaora said:

He is a candidate who seeks exile and runs away when youths are arrested. I’ve been arrested numerous times and I am not afraid of prison.

Mwonzora also said that he shall retain his current post at the congress in Gweru next week. He recited his history and victories which he said were symptomatic of what he is made of. The lawyer-turned-politician said:

I have been arrested by this government 34 times and have won 34 times.

I command respect and support of the people, because they know what I stand for. I stand for the truth, I stand for constitutionalism and what is right. I’m not afraid to criticise powerful people within and outside MDC.

Mwonzora also recalled how beat Chamisa to the Secretary-General post at the 2014 congress despite having gone into the elective Congress as an underdog. He added:

This time around, again, Mashonaland West did not nominate me, but I command a lot of support in 15 districts (out of 22).
