Woman Nabbed For Smuggling Explosives To South Africa

A woman travelling from Zimbabwe to South Africa was arrested by South African Police at the Beitbridge Border Post after being found in possession of explosives wrapped inside plastic bags.

The nationality of the 38-year-old woman could not be immediately ascertained but it has since been established that the smuggled explosives are worth thousands of Rands.

Spokesperson of the Limpopo South African Police Service (SAPS), Constable Maphure Manamela revealed that the woman was arrested around 8 AM on Sunday. Said Manamela:

The suspect was arrested while police were conducting routine searches at the border post.

The bus that she was travelling in had just crossed over when it was directed to the searching bay for inspection.

During the search, two hundred (200) × units of Superpower 90 Blasting cartridges were recovered in her luggage wrapped inside plastic bags.

The origin and destination of these explosives will still be determined by the ongoing police investigations.

The woman is set to appear at Musina Magistrate’s Court charged with possession of illegal explosives soon.
