Top Cop Warns Public Against Attacking Police Stations

A senior police officer has warned would-be rioters that attacking police stations will never be tolerated.

Speaking at the launch of the Zimbabwe Republic Police client service charter in Marondera recently, the Officer Commanding Marondera district, Superintendent Didymus Sakarombe said:

To those who think they have a propensity to attack a police station again, please be warned as we will not just stand akimbo whilst you do as you please.

You cannot attack a police station today yet tomorrow, you will want to report your case at the same.

Superintendent Sakarombe’s remarks follow the stoning of Dombotombo Police station in the town during the January 14-16 riots.

Over 70 police officers were reportedly injured after rioters attacked law enforcement agents across the country.

The riots were sparked by the government’s decision to hike the price of fuel by more than 150 per cent, making the country’s fuel the most expensive in the world at the time.
