Professor Welshman Ncube, opposition Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) Vice President has claimed that Chihambakwe and Dumbutshena reports on Gukurahundi which were reported to be missing do contain incriminating evidence to those hiding them.
Speaking to 263Chat at the sidelines of the party press briefing, Ncube said:
It’s unnecessary to be playing this game of smoke and mirrors that’s what it is. It’s a game of smoke and mirrors, hide and seek. We all know the report is there somewhere but because it contain such damning information those who have it are hiding it.
But we hope that in the fullness of time all of the information, all of the data will be availed not just to the commission but to the Zimbabweans so that we come to terms with terrible things we did to each other in the past.
There have been reports that both the former president of Zimbabwe, Robert Mugabe and president Mnangagwa were involved in the Gukurahundi that is believed to have been undertaken by the North Korean trained fifth brigade.
Recently, president Mnangagwa suggested that the nation freely debate on the issue which transpired on the aftermath of independence. Currently, the National Peace and Reconciliation Commision is on a 21 days national outreach program where it is engaging victims of the Gukurahundi.
Human rights activists have been calling upon the government to address the issue that left many traumatised with others have difficulties accessing national registration identity cards and birth certificates.
