Chamisa Has No Power To Call For An Ordinary Congress Says Gokwe Based MDC Official

Elias Mashavaire an MDC Gokwe based official has said that Nelson Chamisa has no power to call for an ordinary congress until MDC holds an extraordinary congress and confirm him as the party’s leader. Mashavaire is reportedly among the people who want to stop Chamisa from succeeding the late MDC President Morgan Tsvangirai.

The Gokwe based MDC Official last year on the 24th of September submitted an application to the High Court declaring that Chamisa was not the party’s legitimate leader.

He also stated that the MDC structures which were set during the last congress in October 2014 must remain in place and blamed Chamisa for re-arranging the structures. Similarly, he said Chamisa had changed the party’s structure according to his own will.

Meanwhile, Chamisa has been nominated by six provinces out thirteen provinces of MDC as the party’s Presidential Candidate.

Mashavaire criticized the results saying

“The provincial elections were marked by what was clearly a choreographed pattern of intimidation, vote rigging and open violence to supporters of Chamisa’s rivals,” one official said.

Nelson Chamisa succeeded Morgan Tsvangirai who died last year after battling with colon cancer. He was the  Presidential candidate for MDC last year during the Presidential elections and he lost to Emmerson Mnangagwa of Zanu PF.
