Zimunya Man Remanded For Forced Marriage And Rape
Chance Chiwongotere, Zimunya man, appeared before Mutare Magistrate Mr Lazarus Murendo facing rape charges. He was remanded to April 15 for allegedly raping and forcing a 15 year old girl to marry him in October 2018.
It is alleged that Chiwongotere was in a relationship with the minor. In October he is said to have visited her in Kafudza village in Mount Darwin and took her with him to Bedza village. The girl was tricked into believing that her lover was taking her to Harare where her mother was employed.
While in Bedza, Chiwongetere introduced the girl as “wife” to his mother Sarah Gwangwava. The report also says the girl was threatened with black magic by Chiwongetere’s mother in the event she refused to marry him.
The minor, from the following day forward, was violated severally until the 29th of March this year. Chiwongotere took the victim with him to his workplace where she disclosed the matter to his employer. His employer apprehended and took him to the police.
