Zimbabwe has received $400 000 towards fighting the various threats posed by cyber-threats.
The money was availed by the International Telecommunications Union (ITU) at the WSBI Africa Regional Group Meeting hosted last week in Victoria Falls.
Postal and Telecommunications Regulatory Authority of Zimbabwe (POTRAZ) Deputy Director General Alfred Marisa said:
Very soon we will set up a computer institute research committee which will have a national approach on how to respond to cyber threats.
We are working with ITU which has offered $400 000 towards this project and setting up of the committee.
This comes as cases of card cloning have been on the rise in the country. In 2018 alone, 150 cases of card cloning were reported. The Zimbabwe Republic Police has been helpless in dealing with cyber-crime.
