Chamisa Spokesperson Claims Cowdray Park By-election Was Rigged

MDC leader Nelson Chamisa’s spokesperson, Nkululeko Sibanda, said that his party’s loss in the Cowdray Park by-election was because of rigging presumably by the ruling party ZANU PF in connivance with the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC).

MDC fielded two candidates during the election due to its failure to find consensus between the aspiring candidates. Writing on Twitter, Sibanda said:

Look, we blinked and the rigging machine took advantage. This is primarily because the President focused on the Cyclone and humanitarian situation. Be rest assured, President will look into this.

However, Sibanda was derided by some Twitter users for his response:

This is an ‘Energy Mutodi’ type of response. Better to be quiet at times Doc. Please listen to the people. How many times did the MDC A blink during the July 2018 resulting in the 2/3 Parliamentary Elections Handover? Why is the sabotage continuing unchecked?
