ED Rejects Chamisa's Call For External Mediation

President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s spokesperson George Charamba has scoffed at MDC leader Nelson Chamisa’s attempts to bring in external mediators to break the country’s political logjam.

Chamisa has been to several regional countries where he was drumming support for the involvement of a neutral convener in the national dialogue.

On Thursday presidential spokesperson George Charamba dismissed Chamisa’s effort, saying Chamisa should join the ‘State House Dialogue’ involving little parties that participated in the July 2018 poll. Said Charamba:

The solution is within the country and not outside. The problem is that he (Chamisa) is not part of the national dialogue. No solution will be found outside the country.

However, leader of the United Democracy Movement, Violet Mariyacha announced on Tuesday that she was abandoning the whole dialogue process. In her statement, Mariyacha said:

There is no serious discussion of why the country is in this current economic meltdown; why has Zimbabwe failed to attract foreign investments and what or where are the billions (of dollars) that Zimbabweans were told so and so are bringing into the country from the ‘Zimbabwe is Open for Business’ mantra.

… This shows that the president is more concerned about his legitimacy and removal of sanctions.
