MDC-T spokesperson, Linda Masarira, has defined what opposition politics entail. She said that progressive opposition politics is about holding the government accountable, and not calling for the imposition of sanctions against its own. Said Masarira:
Progressive opposition politics is about complimenting government and holding it accountable.
An opposition must not be an accomplice in the imposition of sanctions on its people and demonizing the country.
It’s good to oppose but within the guard rails of development and patriotism.
Masarira’s remarks could be interpreted as a veiled attack on the MDC which has been accused of calling for the imposition of sanctions on the country by the ruling ZANU PF party.
There is no love lost between MDC and MDC-T after the acrimonious split following the death of the party’s founding president Morgan Tsvangirai in 2018.
