Chamisa Embraces Rebels To Keep Hold Of Presidency - Report
While addressing a provincial council meeting on Saturday at Mucheke Hall in Masvingo, Chamisa apparently chided the sitting provincial chair James Gumbi, for the party’s poor showing in the 2018 elections.
Chamisa is reportedly supporting former Deputy Youth Minister Tongai Matutu who at one point defected to join Tendai Biti’s PDP party. Said Chamisa:
In Masvingo, we lost dismally (in last year’s elections). The chairman did not do much to campaign for the party hence the poor showing.
FeedbackWe want to rejuvenate the party and reclaim the seats we once won in 2008. In the last elections, we only won one seat in the whole province.
Chamisa told the meeting that the MDC Alliance would resort to its original MDC name and embrace those who left the party previously, the likes of Tendai Biti and Welshman Ncube. He said:

We are resorting to our original name, the MDC. We are no longer the MDC Alliance. The alliance addition was for the elections to distinguish ourselves.
Like the late leader Morgan Tsvangirai said, we should unite and come back. The likes of Biti and Welshman Ncube are back and there is no longer PDP, we are now one huge family.
… People must learn that being pig-headed does not pay. Look now Khupe is nothing more than a (President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s nickname) crocodile pawn.
