MDC secretary-general Douglas Mwonzora has denied reports that he had a change of heart about contesting for the party presidency.
Some media reports suggested that Mwonzora had decided to contest for the MDC vice presidency post at the upcoming elective Congress. In an interview with Newsday, Mwonzora said:
What is being circulated is false.
When the right time comes, the people shall know which post I am contesting at Congress. There are so many stories being manufactured by people. I am very clear that the MDC is a democratic party, where people chose their leaders.
Mwonzora previously locked horns with party president Nelson Chamisa in 2014 for the secretary-general position. Mwonzora won by a wide margin.
