MDC secretary-general Douglas Mwonzora says that it is without question that the party’s praesidium should have a woman.
Writing on microblogging site, Twitter, Mwonzora said:
That there should at be at least one woman in the MDC praesidium should admit of no debate. It is the right and progressive thing to do as we move towards establishing Zimbabwe as a democratic, non-racist, non-tribalistic and non-sexist society.
Currently, the MDC praesidium has four members, all are male. The four are Nelson Chamisa as the president, and his three deputies namely Elias Mudzuri, Morgen Komichi and Welshman Ncube.
Mwonzora is said to be harbouring presidential ambitions and his remarks may be interpreted as a way of gaining traction with the party’s Women’s Assembly.
