Newsday Owner Throws Weight Behind Mwonzora For MDC Presidency

The founder, owner and executive chairman of several newspapers in Zimbabwe, such as the Zimbabwe Independent and The Standard, Trevor Ncube predicts an MDC split after the May Congress.

Ncube advised MDC supporters to vote for Douglas Mwonzora instead of the “violent” Nelson Chamisa. Said Ncube:

MDC supporters have a choice between a mature leader and a young man whose supporters think violence, insults and abuse are the only way of supporting their political ambitions. I see another MDC split after this and the end of MDC as a political force.

Chamisa is set to square off with Mwonzora for the MDC presidency and is increasingly under fire from ZANU-PF-controlled state media.
