Econet Wireless Zimbabwe apparently registered several people for its micro-insurance service EcoSure, and went on to charge them premiums without their knowledge.
Techzim reports that it has come across several complaints on Twitter from people who received messages from Econet telling them the company had subtracted money from their mobile money accounts to fund EcoSure accounts that they never registered for.
The issue is not affecting all subscribers.
Here are some of the complaints on Twitter:
I have never registered for Ecosure Premium and the service has just automatically deducted $1.00 from my EcoCash account. Hmmm. Any one else experienced this? pic.twitter.com/Nlg94H9J1u
