Crisis Coalition Boss Rashid Mahiya Denied Bail

Crisis in Zimbabwe Coalition (CiZC) Chairperson Rashid Mahiya was denied bail and remanded in custody to 12 March when he appeared before Harare magistrate Rumbidzai Mugwagwa.

Magistrate Mugwagwa advised Mahiya to approach the High court for bail considerations. Mahiya was arrested yesterday in connection with shutdown protests. He is facing subverting a constitutionally elected government charges. Mahiya is being represented by Tonderai Bhatasara from the Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human rights.

The State claims that during the period extending from 3 December to 6 December 2018, Mahiya connived with other accomplices who are still at large and addressed a conference at Wild Geese Conference Centre. Mahiya is alleged to have uttered unknown words which, as the state alleges caused people to engage in acts of public violence, wanton destruction of properties.
