Mwonzora Moves To Counter The Manipulation Of Party Structures

MDC secretary-general Douglas Mwonzora has moved to counter alleged manipulation of the party’s structures ahead of the Elective Congress set to be held this year.

In a letter written early this month to provincial secretaries and chairpersons, Mwonzora said:

You are directed to submit copies of names of current members in all structures in your provinces to the secretary-general’s office on or before February 4, 2019,” the letter read.

Make sure the information you submit is the same information in your organising department. Please be advised that in terms of article 9.5.1 (d) and (e), the secretary-general is the custodian of all important party documents, papers, records and contracts, as well as the membership list.

Mwonzora is said to planning to challenge Nelson Chamisa for the MDC presidency at the elective Congress. Elias Mudzuri, who is the party’s co-vice president is reported to be eying the party’s top post as well.
