Local Football Players Among The Lowest Paid In The Region

Zimbabwe Football players are among the lowest paid in the region as the economy continues to perform poorly.

A Newsday report claims that some players who have managed to secure contracts in neighbouring countries like Zambia and Swaziland are earning between $1 000 and $4 000.

Christian Ntouba Epoupa was reportedly earning $1 000 local currency when he played for Dynamos FC. He left for Zambia under controversial circumstances where he is now getting a reported US$4 000 monthly salary at Power Dynamos. Local football agent George Deda had this to say:

Football has not been spared by the prevailing harsh economic conditions in the country. Players are seeking the opportunity to earn the hard currency and this is all due to our economy which is not ticking.

When you compare what they get here and what they go on to get in foreign countries there is a huge gap, so the majority of our players are looking for that opportunity to play outside.
