Churches Call On Mnangagwa, Chamisa To 'Swallow Their Pride' And Engage

Churches have called upon President Emmerson Mnangagwa and opposition MDC president Nelson Chamisa to put aside their differences and engage in order to deal with the crises affecting the country.

The call was made by the Zimbabwe Christian Alliance (ZCA) on Wednesday at an outreach programme at St Peter and Paul Roman Catholic Church in Masvingo. ZCA secretary Reverend Kurauone Mutimwei said:

Dialogue is good whenever there is a misunderstanding, but what is needed is sincerity from the politicians. We do not want dialogue where one of the parties is holding an axe in the hand. Both parties should sober up, swallow their pride and put people first, not their interests.

We expect the two politicians to drop all the conditions that are stalling the talks.

The calls come when the political, social, security and economic situation has continued to deteriorate. A fortnight ago, at least 12 people were killed when the government deployed soldier in residential areas to deal with protests.
