Julius Malema Pleads With SADC To Provide Zim A Financial Bailout Package Or The Chinese Will Take Over

Fire-brand leader of South African opposition party Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF), Julius Malema has implored the Southern African Development Community (SADC) to offer Zimbabwe a conditional financial bailout package. Speaking to the media in South Africa, Malema said:

We (SADC) are becoming a laughing stock all over the world because one of our own is swimming in a pool of debt and we are unable to provide them with a conditional grant which must not end up in the hands of Zanu PF politicians.

It must be a grant that is dedicated to developmental programmes which help Zimbabwe to stand on its own. A weaker Zimbabwe leads to a weaker Sadc region. We need Zimbabwe, even if we do not have money. So, the little we have as Africans, we need to share and stop being greedy, otherwise, we are setting Zimbabweans up for IMF (International Monetary Fund) and World Bank bailouts and you know what happens …

… or we are setting them up for the Chinese, who are now gradually proving to be extremely hostile where they even take assets of countries which are unable to pay them back. Let us not put Zimbabwe under such a situation. We are Zimbabwe and Zimbabwe is us. Their problems are our problems.

Whether it’s done by Mnangagwa, whether it’s done by Mugabe, it is unacceptable. Mnangagwa must know that it’s unacceptable to beat up people, to break cellphones of people, to shut down the Internet. It’s unacceptable. It’s barbaric.

  1. Malema never stops to amuse me ! i never thought he would turn out to be such an informed and resourceful leader. anyway we hear you cde Malema , you are indeed us and we are you as SADC. however any form of bailout for Zim naturally will pass through the hands of Government and Government is indeed Zanu PF. so im not too sure about what you are proposing “a conditional grant which must not end up in the hands of Zanu PF politicians”.
whichever route that one might want to take in Zim still it leads to Zanu PF or say passes through Zanu for they are the ruling party. i think we as SADC need to correct our perception of Zanu PF and stop blaming everything on this ruling party – they are not that bad after all. they have maintained Zim for 38 years under the most difficult of circumstances , facing opposition from within and abroad. im sure as EFF you will soon be faced with the same predicament once you finish off with South Africa’s Land reforms.
in as much as we might love to point fingers at Zanu PF for all of Zims challenges , what about the responsibility of Zims Citizens themselves towards their own Country? most of the Zimbabweans actually owe their success to the same Zanu PF governments policies. they went to school using Grants provided for by the state (which they never paid back) , South Africa , Botswana etc has a strong Zim workforce that was trained in Zim without even paying a rand/pula for their upbringing & welfare.
all im saying is – whatever Bailout or Program that one might propose will definitely pass through Zim’s Government irrespective (one way or the other) and if we try to by-pass Zanu PF then we will all be making a Huge mistake. these Zimbos ( just like Nigerians ) are now a crafty bunch citizens if not careful they will bankrupt your coffers overnight.
take a page from Zanu PF’s conduct book – it will show you exactly how to deal with Zim’s Public- anything less is just a faster way to start chaos in your own Balance sheets. .
