ZUPCO Buses Will Be Operating In Harare Only- Transport Ministry

In an interview with The Chronicle yesterday, Transport and Infrastructural Development Ministry Deputy Minister Advocate Fortune Chasi said the Zupco buses will be operating in Harare only for now. Chasi said Bulawayo will be covered by the freedom train.

Said Chasi:

So far in Bulawayo there is the freedom train; other cities don’t have the freedom train. For the bus project we are starting in Harare and it’s still work in progress. As we get more (buses) we will move to other cities. But for Bulawayo we have released all the National Railways of Zimbabwe coaches to transport the people. That is why we did not talk about buses for Bulawayo.

Chasi said his ministry will soon engage Bulawayo transport operators on how they can access the fuel rebate to maintain low transport fares. Said Chasi:

I will arrange that we come and speak to them. It’s a bit difficult to explain modalities through the media because this side (in Harare) we met operators. Even us as a Government we had to have the Ministry of Finance providing us with the details. I will try to arrange that with the Ministry of Finance (and Economic Development) so that we come to Bulawayo and speak to operators.

  1. One bus on City Granary route is not enough as it starts late – 9 am to 12 noon and leaves early around 5pm leaving commuters resorting to kombis to get home. Can you add 3 to 6 more buses. Thank you

  2. Zupco can you add more buses on city to granary road, the two CAG and Ellsbury buses on that route are not enough. We need buses early morning 5 – 6 a.m. in Granary and not go away 5 to 6 p.m. thanks
