Majongwe Says 2017 Coup Was A Bad Idea, Can’t Wait For 2023

Firebrand trade unionist, secretary general of the  Progressive Teachers Union of Zimbabwe (PTUZ), Raymond Majongwe says that civil servants are now questioning themselves if it was a good idea supporting the ouster of former President Robert Mugabe in a popular military coup in November 2017. Speaking to the Daily News on Sunday, Majongwe said:

As a country, the civil servants and everyone, we had hoped for a positive change. People are now questioning themselves whether it was the right decision they made.

None the less, history will not change; we remain positive about the future and we will continue to fight. We must fight to correct the situation we have found ourselves in

We really expect the change of political fortunes in 2023 but right now we are stuck with this government.

In November 2017, the military intervened directly in ZANU PF’s factional fights, resulting in the ouster of Mugabe. Mugabe’s ouster was cheered widely by the general citizenry but of late there has been nostalgia for the former President. The economy has nosedived in recent months as prices of goods and services have skyrocketed beyond the reach of many.

  1. …. the problem we face as a people is that there is expectation for change when there has been no or very little input by citizens ….all must play and participate if progress is to be seen and realised.
People like Mr Majongwe have also overstayed in their positions and only have single track minds even when situations and contexts need innovation and active participation ….
