Buses Reduce Prices Following Fuel Allocations & Dampened Demand
Long distance buses reduced their bus fare apparently after government allocated them fuel. The reduced demand also contributed as there are fewer people looking to travel for the holidays after Christmas.
Trips such as the Harare-Gokwe which were now $45 are back to $15.
Said one bus operator in response to the Herald:
At times we get fuel from the Government, so we maintain our fares. Our company gets 2 000 litres of fuel from the Government and it lasts two days. We have 13 buses. Sometimes we are forced to hike fares due to the fuel shortages. We are sometimes forced to go the black market for supplies.
Zimbabwe is going through a fuel crisis that has lasted months. The crisis caused by yet another ongoing crisis – the currency crisis which has seen many people’s money lose value as rates have climbed drastically over the past several months.
