Harare Shoppers Await Bland Christmas As Price Of Goods Skyrocket
Most shoppers have been unable to go for spending spree as had been the norm during the festive period. The majority of the people are only buying basic goods, as soft drinks and ice cream are now considered unnecessary luxuries.
Some shoppers in Harare who were interviewed by the Standard expressed disappointment with the high prices of goods and services. One Tendai Murape who spoke to the publication had this to say
A Christmas without soft drinks and ice-cream for the kids is meaningless.
Instead of shopping for the fancy food here we are, buying flour to at least bake chimodho (home-made bread).
My family and I will celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ [on Christmas], our only hope amid the gloom.
