Economic Consequences Of Sanctions Are Being Vastly Exaggerated- EU
Speaking to 263Chat, European Union (EU) Ambassador to Zim Timo Olkkonen said the economic consequences of sanctions has been exaggerated as they are only targeted.
Olkkonen also said the EU will be watching the political and economic reform developments and the review of sanctions will be based on reforms.Said Olkkonen:
I will challenge anyone to come and show us how the restrictive measures have caused the economic hardships in Zimbabwe…the economic consequences of these measures are being vastly exaggerated, at least as regards the EU measures. These measures are periodically reviewed and in those revisions then we are looking at what is the situation in the country. I would say the overall trajectory, the political reforms, and the economic reforms when they take place they will clearly have a discussions about what will happen with those restrictive measures but there is not like a checklist of what would happen and it’s a decision that the EU members will ultimately make collectively.
