ZANU PF Conference Venue At Risk To Possible Flooding

There are concerns that the ZANU PF Annual People’s Conference will be negatively affected by possible flooding. Heavy rains across the country are predicted in the next 48 hours by the Meteorological Services Department (MSD).

The ZANU PF Indaba is being held in Esigodini, Matabeleland South. The district is considered one of the province’s drought-prone areas.

MSD issued an alert on Friday, that heavy rains of 60mm are expected across Manicaland, Masvingo, Matabeleland South and the southern parts of Midlands within 48 hours beginning on Sunday. MSD Head of public weather service, Tich Zinyemba said

Yes, that is the general assessment of the situation.

Civil Protection Unit director Nathan Nkomo said his organisation is on high alert for possible flooding. He said

Of course, we are on high alert; all our structures are ready. We were in Bulawayo on Saturday and heard reports that district administrators in the region were doing something in activating their units. We are operating on a shoe-string budget like any other government department, but the little we have in our coffers can take us somewhere unless the situation goes out of hand. We can apply for more funds.
