Planted Snipers Killed Protestors On August 1, Chamisa Called Me Accepting Defeat- Obert Mpofu
Giving his oral evidence, at the Commision of Inquiry on Tuesday, former Home Affairs Minister Obert Mpofu said snipers planted in the CBD killed protestors on August 1.
He said the fact that bullets and cartridges were found in the second floor of buildings was enough evidence that the shooters were taking aerial shots. Mpofu said Zanu-PF was not responsible for the shootings. Said Mpofu:
I think there were snipers that were planted around Harare, ZANU PF would never do that, the president would never condone that.
FeedbackMpofu also said government did not order soldiers to shoot to kill. Mpofu also claimed that MDC-A president Nelson Chamisa conceded defeat in a telephone conversation that he recorded on August 1. He said he appealed to Chamisa to order his supporters to stop the violence and he promised to call him back “in a few minutes” and he waited in vain.
