Zimbabwe Must Open Airspace, Revamp Rail Network- Mnangagwa

In his weekly column in The Sunday Mail, President Mnangagwa said there was need to liberalise airspace in line with decisions by the African Union and Comesa.

He said opening up the airspace can be done concurrent with efforts to revive Air Zimbabwe. Said Mnangagwa:

On air transport, Zimbabwe must speedily liberalise its airspace in line with decisions of the AU and Comesa. This could run concurrent with our efforts of reviving Air Zimbabwe. The Chinese loan targeting the Robert Mugabe International Airport will restore our competitiveness in the air transport business.

Mnangagwa also said there is need to revamp Zimbabwe’s rail network. Said Mnangagwa:

NRZ workshops must be re-equipped so that we are able to service the moving parts of the whole network. More work needs to be done on our rail network which is slowing rail traffic and causing frequent derailments. Currently, rail speeds of 30km to 50km per hour cannot make us an efficient economy, let alone a preferred transport hub for the region.
