Zimbabwe To Close Embassies

Finance Minister Mthuli Ncube said Government has resolved to reduce the number of Foreign Missions.

Ncube said this is an austerity measure meant to avoid the accumulation of arrears and evictions of diplomats. He said Zimbabwe’s diplomatic presence is currently imposing annual budgetary support levels of around US$65 million. Ncube said this is $15 million above the 2018 Budget capacity. Said Ncube:

Currently, Zimbabwe has diplomatic presence at 46 Embassies and Consulates, staffed by around 581 home based and locally recruited staff. The above diplomatic presence is currently imposing annual budgetary support levels of around US$65 million, which is above available 2018 Budget capacity of US$50 million. Government has resolved to reduce the number of Foreign Missions, thereby optimising the utility value realised from the remaining missions as well as avoiding accumulation of arrears and embarrassing evictions of our diplomats.

  1. What about the Zimbabwean cross sector interests they represent bringing value to Zimbabweans at home and abroad? Quite contradictory, these foreign offices if well assigned and managed should be a factor in a robust economic development process of Zimbabwe but alas, they are dubbed a liability to Zimbabweans very disturbing?

  2. Good, a complete waste of time here in Oz, they don’t answer the phone, wont reply if you greet them in vernacular, think they are a cut above, well go home to no food, no power and a useless zanupf thieving gov
