President Emmerson Mnangagwa has sent a message of condolences to the relatives of people who perished in the West Nicholson bus accident last night. The accident is suspected to have been caused by a gas tank that caught fire and exploded reducing the bus to ashes. It is feared that 42 people were killed. Mnangagwa said
What is heart-rending about this latest accident is that flammable material was allowed onto the bus, thus causing a fire which trapped, burnt and consumed innocent passengers. What a painful experience and death.
He re-emphasised the need to fully enforce traffic laws as well as maintaining a proper road network.
As the government moves forward with its comprehensive road rehabilitation programmes, it still has to be borne in mind that there is no substitute for greater care and responsibility on the part of all road users.
