The Minister of Finance and Economic Development, Prof Mthuli Ncube says there was near zero fiscal deficit during the month of September 2018 and he expects the trend to continue up to the end of the year. The minister says:

Excellent progress on Zimbabwe fiscal budget deficit reduction. In the month of September 2018, the fiscal budget was balanced. Deficit was almost zero. I am (expecting) this trend to continue to the end of the year. This will contribute to stabilizing the currency and in containing inflation

Here’s the chart shared by the minister:

The budget deficit has been growing in leaps up to August and then it took a sudden deep in the month of September

  1. A positive development, the government should cut its expenditure and try to leave within its means so as to avoid unnecessary credits. I hope the government will be in a positive to generate enough revenue to sustain the development of the country.
